You're never too late to learn
I teach all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students. The lessons are on a one-to-one basis, so the student can learn and progress at their own pace. I take the student step by step through the process of learning to become a complete musician.
Building a solid foundation in technique and music reading, and learning how to practice efficiently. One of the main features of my lessons is the enjoyment of making music through progress. I also prepare my students for graded exams if they wish to take them. As part of the lessons I teach music theory, aural training and jazz improvisation if required.
At my home in Billingham I have a dedicated music room with piano, and I.T. to accompany students and to work on examination preparation. At Sunnyfield House in Guisborough I have a similar set up and I have been teaching there for over 24 years.
Lessons Start from as little as £14 for 30 minutes
My qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Light Music and a Post Graduate Certificate in Jazz from the Guildhall School of Music, London. I also have a Further Education Teacher's Certificate and a current DBS certificate.
I have been teaching for over 25 years. Over this time, I have taught hundreds of students of varying abilities from as young as 7 years and up to 80+ years of age. I believe that anyone can learn to play an instrument with an open mind, enthusiasm and the time to practise. I draw on my experience as a professional musician (on the QE2) as well as the many bands that I've played in to pass on to my students an insight into professional playing that is unique to myself. I also attend regular professional development courses to keep up to date with the latest educational developments.
Results and Achievements
The main result of the lessons is the enjoyment in making music, but some of my students like to go on to take graded exams. I teach both A.B.R.S.M. and Trinity Guildhall exam boards. I have over 300 passes, many merits and distinctions in the graded exams from one to eight including diplomas on all my instruments. Many of my students join bands and orchestras and some go on to study music at university or at specialist schools like Cheethams in Manchester, and have their own careers in the music business.
